Yahoo! Hack Day

In the spirit of Fedex Day at Atlassian and Google’s 20%, the Yahoo! Search and Marketplace team recently held their own hack day. More links below from people who actually attended or participated in the hack day.
I’ve been trying to get a hack day for the mail team (either my individual team or the larger organization as a whole), but haven’t been successful so far. Maybe this event at Yahoo! with it’s high participation turnout will get some wheels turning. In the meantime, I’m considering hatching my own personal hack day, not necessarily to hack on Yahoo! things. Maybe I’ll take a day and fix the Akismet admin panel to my liking. I could see picking one weekend a month and declaring that Saturday to be my hack day.

My personal goal for the next one is to be a participant/organizer, and not just an organizer.
If you want some help getting your hack day going, let me know! I would be glad to share what we learned doing ours.

I think you guys just having one should be great for showing our group that it can be done within the company. Maybe if you could internally post some of the cool submissions, they’d better understand the value of giving us a day to dork out.
