Staying in touch with your users

February 18, 2006

It seems like Yahoo! team blogs are popping up all over the place. Personally, I think it’s great. Yahoo! is a big company now. These blogs help the product teams to stay in touch with the users. I think as companies grow larger, the connection between the users and the development team can easily be lost. Development teams become insulated by all of the support channels larger companies put into place. Users sometimes feel the support channels are black holes.

The team blog provides an opportunity for the development team to tell the users some of what’s going on. What neat, new things have been released. Why is something broken? Responses to news articles. Upcoming public events. And more.

With that in mind, here’s a list of all of the Yahoo! team blogs I was able to find.

If you know of other Yahoo! team blogs that I missed, let me know. On a related note, here’s a list of some Yahoo! employee blogs (nowhere near complete) compiled a while ago.

Hey Ryan, any idea when you guys are going to fix the “send feedback” link under the help dropdown? I’ve been trying to send in a problem I’m having, but that link never works anymore.

The problem I’m seeing has seem to come up after the last update to Ymail Beta. In Firefox, on both Mac and WindowsXP, I can’t fully see the last message in any given box. It’s hard to explain, so shoot me an email and I’ll send you a link to a screen grab and try to explain more. Or you can catch me on Ymessenger during the day most of the time.

Ward, both the message scrolling thing in Firefox and the feedback link are known problems.

Fabio, if you’re a Yahoo! Plus user, go to http://finance.yahoo.com/ and scroll to the bottom. There’s a “Send Feedback” link.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like they surface feedback for non-plus users. Lame.

Thanks Ryan, Yahoo Finance is a great service. It’s a pity not to be able to stay in touch with the team.
