I've had about 20-25 sneak past Bad Behavior. I'll know it's helping if I can avoid the big spikes I sometimes see. I don't mind the trickle, because they're easy to scan in the Akismet log. But when I get a flood of 100+, it makes it harder to scan for false positives.

hey ryan, how's bad behavior working out for you? after installing it on my side, i have only had 1 spam get through bad behavior -- which it was then caught by akismet/spam karma. i'm very impressed.

it's roughly 140 miles from Folsom to Sunnyvale. I leave around 8am and get to work around 10:30am. I drive down on Monday and back on Wednesday, spending the night with family on Monday and Tuesday.

Tolerable? Yes. Favorable? No.

If you're heading into SF, look into Amtrak. They have a set of trains called the Capitol Corridor that go from downtown Sacramento to many stops in the Bay Area. In Emeryville they have a bus connection to get you to SF or you can stay on the train until Richmond and meet up with BART.

Hi Ryan,

I came across one of your posts on some site regarding commuting. I live in Sacramento and am considering taking a job in San Francisco. How's the commute? Is it tolerable? How long does it usually take you? Thanks, Jason

[...] Just how many anti-spam tools are enough? Following Ryan’s lead, I installed Bad Behavior on ultramookie. This will work (hopefully) in conjunction with Akismet and Spam Karma. I don’t get many spams slipping past Akismet or Spam Karma, but what’s a little more protection? Bad Behavior is also advertised as blocking the bots from loading the pages through some automagical detection routines. That’s something that I had been looking for ever since the move away from my home server which I could run mod_security on. Let me know if you see any funkiness!
